Kaseya FAQ

What is Kaseya?
We have chosen to use Kaseya’s remote desktop product as an alternative option to connect to our clients via the internet. We continue to have great success with pcAnywhere, Citrix, and Terminal Services; however we wanted to have another option for our clients where firewalls pose a problem with the connection. Kaseya provides easy, fast and secure Remote Desktop Management. Without changing firewall settings or struggling to get to computers behind a NAT gateway, Kaseya remote control handles the connections seamlessly. For more information visit www.kaseya.com

How is Kaseya more secure than pcAnywhere or Remote Desktop software?

The Kaseya platform architecture is central to providing maximum security. Each computer managed has a small agent installed. The agent initiates all communications back to the server. Since the agent will not accept any inbound connections, it is impossible for a third party application to attack the agent from the network.

Kaseya does not need any input ports opened on client machines. This lets the agent do its job in any network configuration without introducing susceptibility to inbound port probes or new network attacks.

Administrators access the Kaseya server through a Web interface after a secure logon process. The system never sends passwords over the network and never stores them in the database. Only each administrator knows his or her password. The client side combines the password with a random challenge, issued by the Kaseya server for each session, and hashes it with SHA-1. The server side tests this result to grant access or not. The unique random challenge protects against a man-in-the-middle attack sniffing the network, capturing the random bits, and using them later to access the Kaseya server.

What do I need to do to configure Kaseya?
The only thing that will be required on your end, is to download and install the agent on your system. Occassionally, you may be required to open Outbound TCP/IP Port 5721, if its not already opened. The computer you are installing must also meet the following minimum requirements:

Agent Requirements
333 MHz Pentium-class CPU or greater
128 MB of RAM
30 MB of free disk space
Network Interface Card (NIC) or modem
Microsoft Windows 98, Me, NT 4.0, 2000, XP, Server 2003
TCP/IP Outbound Port 5721
No Inbound Ports

Can I control access?
End users can optionally block remote control on their computers. You have the option to leave the agent running at all times, so Data Plus can access your system at anytime OR you may disable the agent until a connection to Data Plus is required.
